Though Melinda and Evan attended the same high school (they even had lockers only 5 away from each other!!) their paths never crossed until Cortland. It was Melinda's sophomore year and Evan's junior year when they found themselves in the same first class of the new semester. After everyone in the class did a brief introduction Melinda had a hard time believing Evan was really from Binghamton. After class and more conversation, Melinda was shocked to discover her dad Bruce had known Evan for years through St. Patricks basketball (Direct quote from Bruce: "Oh, the lefty with the nice shot?").
